Hazardous Waste Authorisation

Hazardous waste, defined by properties like toxicity, reactivity, flammability, or corrosiveness, must be carefully managed under the Hazardous & Other Wastes Rules, 2016. This includes generation, storage, treatment, recycling, and disposal, all regulated by CPCB and SPCBs. Authorisation is mandatory for:

  • Generators producing >10 metric tonnes per annum (Rule 6)
  • Recyclers / TSDFs managing treatment, storage, and disposal (Rule 10)
  • Transboundary Movement Permit for exporting or importing hazardous waste

Why Authorisation is Crucial?

  • Legal Compliance: Operating without authorisation breaches the EPA and Rules
  • Environmental Safety: Prevents harm from toxic waste
  • Operational Continuity: Ensures uninterrupted operations
  • Liability Coverage: Protects against legal and environmental risks
