Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) refers to the coastal stretch from the Low Tide Line (LTL) to the High Tide Line (HTL) and up to 500 meters inland from the HTL. These zones are rich in biodiversity and ecological importance but are also vulnerable to unsustainable development and anthropogenic stress. To conserve and manage these fragile ecosystems, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) enforces the CRZ Notification under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
